I first visited Hummingbird Hill in the fall of 01997, shortly after moving to Cascadia from the Sonoran Desert. Over the next 18 years, I grew extremely close to my grandfather, who stewarded Humm Hill for 30 years — after which he was torn away from his home due to Alzheimer's (a story for another time).
